It’s 27 degrees as I write this, a very unexpected end of summer here in the UK. But I’ve been busy reading up on the new season and everything to come for Autumn Winter 2024. I have a little bit of a love hate relationship with this season. I am very much a summer lover. I love the liberation I feel in the warmer months, the freedom to walk out with bare arms and not worry about how the weather will change as I head home in the evenings. I love the longer and brighter days gentling encouraging me to explore more throughout the day. But as we’re waning from summer and heading into Autumn, you can really feel the chill in the air and the days getting shorter as the sun sets earlier. And it makes me eagerly want Autumn Winter 2024 to come already. I’m ready for cosy evenings in, having fun layering outfits and seeing freshness in the stores, online and when people watching in my favourite coffee spot.
For those that know me and my approach to style, I’ll always encourage you to be mindful of trends. To really nail the basics of your wardrobe first and only invest in the trends that really speak to you and work for your true style personality. The moment we begin to invest in every trend under the sun is the time we begin to lose touch with our authentic selves which ends up being reflected in our wardrobe. So as I share some of the newness, remember to choose styles that work for you, your body shape, your colours and your own sense of personal style and you won’t go wrong!
So without further ado, here’s my run down of my top Autumn Winter 2024 trends I’ve spotted online and in store.
Colours
You know I’m going to start with my favourite topic! Now the catwalks still had a beautiful vibrancy from the warmer months but what we’re seeing more and more of in the stores is a real lean into those deeper tones.
You’ll have seen the deep and beautiful shade of burgundy making it’s way into the high street from accessories to footwear and clothing. The rich shade works perfectly for deeper seasonal palettes like Autumn and Winter that can carry the depths of this shade with ease. Burgundy also gives a real richness and can make any outfit look that little more expensive.
You’ll also be seeing plenty of blush pink around to add some softness to the colder months. Paired with the depths of burgundy, the blush can act as your neutral and add a delicacy to the harsher months.
Prints & Patterns
Yep Leopard isn’t going anywhere but with a little vintage feel. Leopard, is more of a classic than a trend, making it super versatile in your wardrobe. But the hype from Spring Summer is here to stay for Autumn Winter. You might want to try top to toe in leopard or more paired back with black or other colour pops using it as a neutral.
I think my favourite patterns for Autumn have to be the argyle, plaid or checks giving a really British feel. I love the play with colours in the design and the more abstract feel from the geometric diamond patterns. Pair with your favourite denim, basic long sleeve tee and loafers for an easy and stylish look.
Textures
Sheer fabrics are going to be big for the season and will probably be seen everywhere in the lead up to party season.
The biggest thing catching my eye though is suede, seen in everything from jackets to handbags, boots and skirts. I love the soft texture and contrast you can play on with other textures in your outfit. Extending on from the cowboy trend, a good suede jacket will really elevate your whole look. And the colour options on the high street allow you to lean into your colour palette. Try extra details like fringing and studs for a more unique look.
Silhouette
Capes can be a little hit and miss if not done right. Making sure to style it up by pulling in the waist with an interesting belt will bring the look together.
This Cos version has the sewn on scarf for added detail that can be beautifully draped over the shoulder for a really elevated look.
Pair with a long sleeve top in a block colour or interesting pattern, a wide leg pair of trousers or denim and ballet pumps to complete the look.
Which is your favourite trend for the new season. I’ll be transitioning my wardrobe over the next few weeks to make space for warmer pieces and remove the summer pieces to avoid being distracted.
