Each month I’ll be bringing you a new Style Story from a previous client who will be sharing a bit about themselves along with their experience of working with me at Neelam Personal Stylist. This may include a one to one styling client, a group event or maybe a brand partnership. Real experiences can help you to get a feel for how I work, some of the benefits my clients have seen and why my services might be right for you.
This month I was lucky enough to chat to Suman Randhawa – Founder & Sales Mentor. Suman and I connected a few years ago and I loved all of our talks from fashion to business. What started as a client relationship soon developed into a great friendship. We’ve worked together on multiple Personal Styling projects, notably on her first brand photoshoot, along with a wardrobe declutter and online shoppable moodboards. I was excited to hear her experience of our journey and time together.
Can you tell us a bit about why you wanted to work with a Personal Stylist?
I’ve worked in fashion environments for many years and so I have a love of fashion but haven’t always known how to make it work for me. During the time I was launching my business, I also found that my body shape was changing as I was going through the menopause. I really wanted to understand not only what suited me, but also how to create a wardrobe that worked for my new lifestyle as I was transitioning to being self employed.
Do you have a favourite colour?
I mean I do love black! But also appreciate I can wear bold colours with confidence and I particularly love orange and green this season.
Can you share a little around the struggles you have faced with understanding your body shape and petite frame?
Petite and curvy comes with many challenges! The main struggle I find is that that I can’t just pick pieces off the rail. It really took time to understand my body, how to create balance and play to the parts that I loved, all whilst avoiding feeling swamped in oversized clothing as my body was constantly changing. .
Also, comfort became key for me as I was increasingly working from home. Along with this I also need outfits that look good on the grid (Instagram) as my profile is such a huge part of my personal branding and how I interact with clients. It’s really important for me to have a selection of versatile clothing that I can understand how to easily mix and match.
What were some of the best pieces you have purchased since working with Neelam?
I do love a co-ord! And I love waistcoats and trousers this season. Below are three outfits selected by Neelam and I love them! I wore one to collect my award for Business Women of the Year, one for the biggest talk of my career and the other for a photo shoot. Oh and we finally got me a denim skirt that fits and I’m obsessed with that!
Has your confidence increased in putting together outfits?
More so for sure, but it’s a work in progress for me. I now pause before buying and if it something doesn’t fit, I look to resell or donate it rather than wait for it to fit me. It also helps that Neelam created look books at the end of every time we have worked together so I often open that up to see what looks I can create from the actual pieces we have selected.
What transformations have you experienced since working with Neelam?
I feel I have more signature outfits and my wardrobe only has what I wear in it. I have become bolder with colour and have a number of outfits that I love that I first said no to when Neelam selected them for me.
What three words would you use to describe your personal style now?
Sleek, stylish and comfortable!
Thank you so much for your time Suman. It’s been so rewarding to see the developments you’ve made in your approach to your personal style and I love following your looks through socials to see what new ideas you put together.
I would definitely recommend following Suman over on IG or LinkedIn for all of your sales and messaging questions. She has a wealth of experience and knowledge, and her reels and content often give me a good laugh!
Stay tuned for more style stories!
