Celebrating new beginnings, connection to deep values and purpose and attracting an abundance of prosperity this Diwali!
This week marks the launch of the new Neelam Personal Stylist brand and it was really special that this launch goes hand in hand with the Hindu festival of Diwali and New Year. This is such a special time for me as we celebrate the victory of good over evil, knowledge over ignorance and light over darkness especially in a world that often has you questioning so much.
I launched the NPS brand over 3 years ago and with it being a personal brand, all of my own development and growth has seeped into everything I do in my work. When I first launched the brand I was so nervous and scared in my little corner. It’s like I didn’t really want to be seen or heard from fear of other people’s judgement. But with increased inner work and development in my confidence and my offering, the brand slowly grew into something with real impact. And with this impact comes a need for change and growth within the business. It’s so important for me to show the key values and ways of working that are important at NPS so that we can continue to work with and impact the lives of others.
And so over the summer of 2024 I came to realise that my brand needed to evolve to reflect me personally but also what the experience that my clients have when they work with me. When deciding on the re-brand there were three key themes that were really important to see visually reflected. So below I share with you each theme, its resonance to NPS and how the festival of Diwali encompasses this too.
Representation
I work with women and men from a range of different backgrounds, cultures and countries. And as a South Asian Personal Stylist in London, over the years I have really felt that there has been a lack of diversity in the Personal Stylist industry.
For example, when I trained to become a Personal Stylist, the way in which we were taught, the visuals we saw and the approach felt like it came from the place of a white woman that lacked the ability to see the beautiful nuances in each and every person. I failed to see a lack of representation, not only in the colour of skin, but also in the body images I saw. NPS has always been driven by the purpose to work with the everyday woman and to help her find her confidence and true self through the power of personal style. So something needs to change.
When we celebrate Diwali a key theme is in celebration of knowledge over ignorance. And I feel like using my platform in a way to showcase diversity and inclusion in the space has become really important to me. Without the information and knowledge within the industry, how do things change?
The Power of Colour
You’ll see that the new brand is colourful, bold and unapologetic! This was a huge focus for me when brining the new brand to life. After training as a Colour Analyst and with further professional training over the years, my own wardrobe came to life with beautiful bright and fun colours. And so the NPS brand really needed to showcase my love of colour and how it can turn any bad day around.
Colour also has a special place in my heart and even more so because of my culture. This was again a key aspect of the re brand that I wanted to bring to life. I have a blend of cultures within me and it was really important for me to showcase a brand where you can show every part of you through your personal style. I love to work with clients that want to add elements of there mixed cultures into their personal style. During the festival of Diwali along with other Hindu festivals and events you’ll see beautiful colours, patterns, print and motifs adorning clothing, homes and buildings. There is a real magic that it brings.
Authenticity
Now I know this term gets thrown around a lot. But when I started within the industry I thought I had to be like others. The trend of neutrals and beiges has been so prominent and I saw a lot of other stylists in this space too. So when I launched, I felt I needed to be the same, to blend in, to fit in.
But after delving more into my own sense of personal style, injecting more fun into my wardrobe and also working with clients, I knew my approach was different and that my branding needed to reflect this sense of authenticity. When I work with clients I don’t try to pigeonhole them into one type of body or colours or styles. My aim is to always help them be there most unique and authentic self. And so it was really important that my new branding had this flair in it too.
And so with Diwali and the Hindu New Year approaching, it feels like the perfect time for a new beginning, a fresh start that will honour and respect the growth of the brand.
So welcome to the revamped NPS. We’re going big, bold and brave so we can show up as the best version of ourselves!
