Main Character Energy…

Whose the main character in your life ? You, I would guess? Whether you are a daughter, mother, wife, sister or friend, you should be the one that comes first, because without you there are none of the other. So when it comes to your personal style, do you make choices to embody your main character energy or for others?

To follow the latest trends?

To satisfy societal expectations of how a woman should dress?

To hide in the shadows or parts of you that feel uncomfortable or too much?

It can feel suffocating when we do this. Like we’re constantly hiding behind something, which causes us to dim our light and not be our full and true selves. So I’m here today to tell you I’m rooting for the main character, every part of you. The big, the small, the loud, the quiet and everything in between.

So here are three easy ways in which you can start to channel that main character energy.

1. Stop Following Trends!

I know, you might not like this one but this will be a huge turning point when you ditch the trends and find a timeless style. It can become so easy with social media to just jump on the latest trend because you see everyone else wearing it.

You might have seen how recently Marks and Spencer went through a cyber security incident. This led to the website being unable to fulfil online orders since the 25th April. That was over a month ago with it being reported that online services may not resume again until July (sourced from the BBC). Marks and Spencer has become known in recent time for its trend led styles that have led to a whole new audience adopting their styles. We are constantly bombarded with influencers in the latest M&S viral piece. And this cyber attack looks to be costing the brand over £300 million in lost sales! All of those quick online orders taking our money, time and energy after being easily influenced online have come to a standstill.

Not only does it mean you are spending less money, but also you won’t be wearing what everyone else is wearing! It just goes to shower the power of these giant retailers.

We can change our habits though. This could be taking inspiration from decades gone by, leaning into your cultural influences or ensuring your shop timeless and capsule pieces that aren’t trend led. You can look in old vintage stores, charity shops and online sites like Vinted and Depop. Or even trying shopping small, independent brands. You’ll begin to find your own authentic sense of style and be creatively free to dress in what makes you feel your best.

2. Find What You Love

Whether its colours, silhouettes or parts of your body. Find the things that bring you most joy and energy and use those in your visual expression. It could be anything from a colourful pair of glasses as your statement piece, showing off your legs in shorter skirts because you love that part of your body or maybe mixing and matching prints and patterns in new and interesting ways.

You can begin to find focal points in your outfits that will say so much about you without you even having to actually say anything. And when its something you love, it will come across to much more effortlessly than trying to shoe horn yourself into trends that you hate or hiding your body in shapeless styles.

Pinterest should be your best friend for inspiration. Use it to create your dream style vision board for your main character energy.

3. Become So Fiercely Unapologetic

Let go of the good girl narrative. Its hard, don’t I know it. But really, life is just too short. And this doesn’t just mean your style but also your presence. Finding your power in how you carry yourself, the words and language you use, the environments and people with which you surround yourself. This will all contribute to you being able to be your most real, raw and unapologetic self!

With the work I do, I really strive to create a safe and open environment for my clients. And I often see the struggles that we as woman go through when just trying to be our real selves. It takes time, patience and courage to make the changes when sometimes thoughts, patterns, behaviours and beliefs are so ingrained. Your personal style and outwards creative expression is such a joyful way in which to do it. And so if I can, I will spread the message as far and wide as a I can!

We’re here and ready for your main character energy. Are you ready to embrace her? If you need some help, lets chat, I would love to help you.

Love,
