10 Spring Summer Capsule Wardrobe Must Haves!

Currently sitting in Westfield writing up this blog after a little browse around the shops! Coffee in hand here are my top 10 capsule wardrobe pieces for the new season. I’ve been thinking long and hard about which pieces are relevant for the season and can be worn again and again. And as an extra addition I’ve included how you can easily add in 4 of the top trends for Spring Summer 2023 without having to invest in endless new pieces.

1. The Trench Coat

The most versatile piece to take you from Winter to Spring. They can easily be layered, are available in so many colours and price points and are the perfect transitional piece. Worn casually or dressed up they are one of my top key staples for a spring wardrobe. Available in different lengths and colours the options are endless.

If the classic trench doesn’t work for your body shape, try looking for a single breasted option or one with more flow. I spotted this Mango one and loved the tie in waist and softer fabric to add movement to your look. Perfect if you want to skim over the stomach and lower body.

2. Striped Tee

I love a striped tee! I’ve ordered a few variations from cos to add a little colour to my wardrobe. Think greens, pinks, blues, reds. That real nautical feel and a piece like this can easily be worn as is with jeans or layered under pieces like a denim shirt, boiler suit or blazer. They are a great way to add width to the top half of the body. They even have a v-neck version!

If you are trying to elongate the torso instead of widening it then try a vertical stripe instead, often available in shirts.

3. Blazer

A blazer is a perfect layering addition throughout the whole year. Think lighter tones and fabrics for Spring/Summer. You could try a more daring colour in shades like pink or purple or go classic with a cream or brown. In terms of fabric you can try a lighter linen option or breathable cotton.

Easily layered under the trench or worn on its own a blazer can be worn with jeans, dresses, skirts, jumpsuits. You name it!

4. Mid or Lighter Wash Jeans

I absolutely love this pair from 7 for All Mankind. A lighter wash for Spring Summer can be worn casual or dressed up for warmer evenings. Choosing a style that has the right cut to bring balance to your frame is super important. Think about the leg length too, for the warmer months you may want to try a more cropped style. I would pair these with some statement coloured heels like orange or silver for all of the spring vibes.

5. White/ Cream Shirt or Blouse

Depending on what colour works best for your complexion, adding in a lighter coloured blouse or shirt can bring in the spring feel. Go for a statement piece with fun collars like this or something like a pin stripe. Or a classic plain white style that can be layered on top of a tee or underneath a blazer.

6. Midi dress

Midi dresses are a fab length for pretty much any body type Remember to get a good cut at the neckline, something that shows off your waistline and a skirt that brings balance. I love a midi because they can be made warmer with layers underneath and a pair of boots or brought into Spring summer with your favourite pair of sandals. I also love pairing them with a high top converse for a laid back look.

I tried this one on the other day and it’s gone straight onto my wish list!

7. Black or Cream Trousers

I love a side striped trouser, which makes your legs go on for days. These M&S ones caught my eye with their wider leg and front crease piping detail. The elasticated waist is also great for comfort. These make the perfect addition to your other capsule pieces as they can be taken easily from day to night with a quick change in shoes. I love the way its layered here with a denim jacket for a perfect spring feel.

8. White trainers

These work all year round but for Spring Summer you might want to go for a fun colour that works with your chosen colour palette. I’ve seen so many options out there but these white and orange Vejas have to be one of my fave! They work well paired with jeans trousers, skirts and dresses and give an easy comfort to any look.

9. Tote Bag

The holy grail of bags, a tote bag comes in all sorts of colours, shapes and sizes. I would use this as an opportunity to add some colour to your capsule wardrobe. I picked this sage green to match back to the orange Vejas. It can easily be worn for a casual weekend look or to take you from a day in the office to a night out for dinner and drinks.

10. Loafers

I spotted this pair online from Massimo and fell in love with the chunky sole, the gold detailing and the overall look! Wear with jeans a dress, trousers. So many options and they look super comfy for those days when you are on your feet or commuting to work.

Loafers are the perfect in between shoe before you are ready to brace the open toe sandals and shoes! They easily elevate the whole look of an outfit.

So I know you might be thinking you want to get that latest on trend piece to complete your look. With trends they come and go so quickly. So being mindful of which pieces you invest in will save you time, money and space in your wardrobe! Here are 4 easy ways to these new trends into your spring summer capsule wardrobe without spending a fortune.

Denim Maxi. The piece seen all over IG! Work it into your capsule basics like your loafers and blazers or dressed up with heeled boots. This one’s from Mango.

Cargo Pants… the resurgence from the 90’s! Keep them casual with your striped tee and white trainers. The perfect weekend look. I loved this colour way from Kaffe paired with a Levis denim jacket and this And/Or camera bag.
